QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

This page is to answer all your Squad and general triathlon queries. If you have a question that it not covered in below,  flick me an email and I will post an answer here so others can benefit from the response. As someone famous once said it’ all about the bike… the majority of questions/problems are!

1. I’m not very fit…can i still join?
Yes we will accommodate you and get you on your way – with 3 coaches we are able to break into groups of different abilities and you train with others at your level.

2. Do I have to wear lycra?
No… even if Dave is a fan of spandex we want you to wear what you are comfortable and happy training in.

3. I can’t swim very well…can I join still?
We don’t mind if you struggle to the other end of the pool. If you can make one length we will be able to turn that into 2, 3, 4, 100m, 250m, 500m …

4. I am scared of the ocean, jelly fish, sharks and am not that confident in the open sea.
We always buddy up in the sea so you always swim next to someone. You will be swimming with qualified Lifeguards and we will teach you all about ocean swimming in the pool first.

5. I am a really slow runner… will I get left behind?
No. We tailor the runs so you run within a group at your pace. Then we double back the faster ones so they work out at the same level as you do (they just go further!)

6. I only have a mountain bike… is that ok?
Yes. You will have to work a little harder to keep up but they are great to use as you can do some races and see if you want to do more before spending $ on a new bike.

7. Can I do only some of the sessions?
Yes. Let us know which ones you would like to do and we will work out a price for you.

8. I have such and such medical condition?
Talk it over with your GP first and then let us know so we can keep you training at the right level for you.

9. What do you do if the weather gets bad?
We run! Check the website or my twitter to see if we have had to alter plans due to weather.

10. Do I need a wetsuit?
Yes. The harbor is too cold to swim for long periods before Christmas. A wetsuit will keep you warm and you will enjoy it more.

11. Where can I buy my wetsuit from?
T3 (formerly the swim shop) on Oriental Parade. If you join us Chris and his team will give you a discount on your purchase.

12. Is a surfing wetsuit ok?
Yes. You won’t be able to swim as well as in a triathlon wetsuit but it will keep you warm. Tri wetsuits have a snug fit and flexible shoulders to help you move through the water.

13. Should I join the local Triathlon club?
YES!!! They are the ones that help co-ordinate and promote your sport in the community. Just ask Ange if she has enjoyed those club nights!

14. Will your Squad help someone aiming for a longer race?
A lot of athletes will need to double training days. It is always easier to do this with a group of friends than by yourself.

15. I already have a coach and program to follow?
Talk it over with your coach but the most important thing is to enjoy your training. If you need more social training sessions then most coaches will accommodate this.

If you have a question that isn’t answered here, please email me at logan@trihards.co.nz and I will answer it for you.
